Around the Resorts – Ottawa, IL

Ottawa, Illinois

Exit from Fox River Resort, turn right onto IL-71 then go about 14 miles or so. As you enter Ottawa, IL-71 will become West Norris Drive. Turn left onto La Salle Street and a few blocks later you are in Downtown Ottawa which is also known as Ottawa’s Old Town District. You can park and easily walk around the six square blocks or so that make up the area.

Ottawa kind of evolved into a town between 1823 and 1837. In 1829 the Illinois Canal Commission laid out the towns of Chicago and Ottawa as planning got underway for the Illinois and Michigan Canal which was completed in 1848. Located at the confluence of the Fox and Illinois rivers, the city was officially incorporated the same year the railroad was extended to the area in 1853 and is the La Salle County Seat.

Around the Resorts – Kissimmee Florida’s Old Town Theme Park

Old Town Theme Park

Located about ten minutes from the Orlando Breeze Resort, at 5770 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy (US-192), Kissimmee Florida; Old Town is not much of a theme park when compared to the likes of Disney World but then again it never really was meant to be a theme park anyway.

Opened on December 12th 1986 by entrepreneur Deac Huntley, Old Town was built to be an entertainment complex with a sort of different shopping experience. Originally it consisted of a Ferris wheel and a carousel alongside a small number of uncommon specialty stores. The rides were simply a way to attract shoppers.

ziplines-villages-feat

There are three different zip line parks within driving distance of The Villages and Lake O’ The Woods resorts. There is the “NY-TX Zip Line Adventures” (http://www.goziptexas.com) (903-681-3791) which is the closest to the resorts and though it seems like it might be the best of the three it is only open Thursday thru Sunday with Thursday sometimes being iffy.
Then there’s the “Wired Zip Line Challenge Course” (http://www.ziptheusa.com) (903-567-2681) which is located in Canton, TX and the farthest from the resort.
Finally there is the “Adrenaline Zip Line Tours” (http://www.daretozip.com) (903-683-6855) and it is open seven days a week barring the weather. The park is located 55 minutes from the resorts approximately six miles south of Jacksonville, TX seven miles north of Rusk, TX and the one this reporter chose to check out.
